About Us
The Building On Our Strengths (BOOSt) research project is led by key Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations who want to improve maternity services for our mob.
It was important for us to have the ACCHOs lead this project so that the work we are doing is useful to the community and that the end results of the research will reflect the needs and core values of the community. It also means that the community owns and controls it.

Our research team also work in partnership with universities and health professional organisations. We want to hear from and work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to design and deliver the best maternity care for the community.

I'm interested, how do I get started?
​Easy! Fill out the Expression of Interest Form and someone from our research team will get in contact with you to answer any of your questions and get you started!

We will ask you to consent before completing any surveys. Please read the Participant Information Consent Form - downloadable PDF
Or you can yarn through this information with one of our BOOSt researchers, your midwife or a health worker.
Feel free to yarn with family first before making a decision.
If I consent to participate in the BOOSt study what will I be asked to do?
We will ask you to complete a total of THREE SURVEYS at different timepoints:

During pregnancy (between 28 - 36 weeks gestation)

2 months after birth
-
6 months after birth.
A reminder text or email will be sent out at each timepoint with a link to the next survey.

The survey can be completed:

online - we can email or text you the link.

in person - where ever you feel comfortable to meet with us

over the phone
The surveys have questions about your experiences during pregnancy, birth, in hospital and of being a mother. We give you a study ID to enter into your surveys to ensure your identity is kept confidential. It is completely voluntary and you can stop participating at any time just let someone from our research team know.
Will I get anything in return for participating?
Yes, to thank you for your time you will receive a $20 gift voucher for each completed survey and an additional gift when you complete the 2 month postnatal survey.
